Photogrammetry

timharriden

With advances in camera technology, computer software and processing power, photogrammetry has become a viable option to replace a traditional method (Coral Point Count) of coral reef monitoring.

Oceans 1 now has the capability and experience to provide underwater photogrammetry of coral reefs. Specific sampling techniques have been developed to align with previous methods using CPCe. This new technique provides far greater detail on the coral community and its changes over time.

To analyse the orthomosaic’s produced from the photogrammetry method, we are using an AI enhanced software. The software is used to identify, count and measure size/area of the individual corals. The software can also be used to compare specific changes over time on repeated fixed sampling areas.
